Ghent Rugby Tours

A warm welcome, surprisingly competitive on the field & excellent hospitality off it!

Rugby Tours To Ghent

Ghent is the best European city that you never thought of visiting. Horribly overlooked in favour of nearby Amsterdam, Brussels and Bruges, a visit to the city will have you amazed, intrigued and undoubtedly impressed.

Both National Geographic & Lonely Planet have rated Ghent as a top 10 city to visit. Hidden away in the city is one of Europe's finest panoramas, a mix of ancient spires, age-old houses, waterways and magnificent pedestrian-only plazas.

Located near Antwerp, Brussels & Bruges, Ghent is well placed to enjoy Belgium's Best Rugby. Superb hosts, surprisingly competitive on the field & some cracking facilities to enjoy.

Key Information

The Rugby

Belgian Youth Rugby is a mix of medium-basic standard. Fixtures with rep-teams available for the stronger touring sides.

It is a cliché, but for what the teams lack in on the pitch, they absolutely out-do themselves afterwards. Some great clubs offering magnificent hospitality.

Ferry

Newcastle to Amsterdam

For those fortunate to live in the North of England, we'll collect you in an executive coach and transfer you to North Shields Ferry Terminal. From here, DFDS Seaways offer daily overnight crossings to Amsterdam. Often sighted as a real highlight of tours to Northern Europe, the DFDS crossing is superb fun.

You'll spend the night in 2-berth and 4-berth Cabins, enjoy an all-you-can-eat dinner & breakfast, enjoy live Music on the Stage and in the Troubadour bar. It may be the highlight of the tour!

On arrival in Holland, you'll be in the destination in no time.

Dover to Calais & Dunkirk

For those in the South, you'll travel by executive coach from your club to Dover Ferry Terminal before sailing to Calais or Dunkirk. A short 90-minute hop over the channel will have you in Belgium in no time at all. Great value for money - the difference in price between staying in the UK & hopping across to Europe is minimal.

Once you're back on land, it is go go go to your location.

Air

Flying into Brussels is a good option for most UK and International tourists, however, from some places, it is quite hamstrung.

Flying into Dusseldorf or Amsterdam may result in a journey at the other end, but you will likely have greater flexibility on schedules and prices by doing this.

Backstay Hostel

Backstay Hostel is situated in a monumental Art Deco building right in the city centre of Gent. Breakfast-buffet, bed linen, Free WiFi, security lockers, internet access & luggage storage is all provided.

The hostel has 15 rooms, 104 beds, a cosy foyer with good music and a bar. The staff are a young and energetic team and will make your stay in Gent a memorable and wonderful experience. Use Backstay Hostel as your base to experience the city's vibrant nightlife, the beautiful city and a whole host of top-class museums.

Something Flash

The Ibis Hotel in the heart of Gent looks over St Baafs Cathedral. Located nearby our 'home' in the city at Amadeus Restaurant, the Hotel offers comfortable en-suite twin rooms, a hotel bar & other services you'd expect from the Ibis chain.

Maybe lacks the atmosphere and fun of the Backstay, but the smaller rooms and twin beds do make the upgrade worth a look.

Gent Easter Rugby Festival

Rugby Club Gent run their annual Youth Rugby Festival every Easter weekend. A worthy alternative to the packed-out Hilversum event a few hours North, you'll get a more intimate welcome in Gent.

The weekend kicks off with a Belgian-Beer filled party on the Friday night before the Rugby is played on Saturday and Easter Sunday.

Tournaments include:

Boys U15, U16, U17, U18 & U19

Girls U18 Seven-a-Side

Sevens and XV Tournaments for Senior Men and Women
